I expect our leaders to lead

I want my elected representatives to lead, to represent the people, to be statesmen and not politicians.

I want our elected officials to build peaceful alliances with other countries.  I don’t want them to build relationships with other nations to serve the needs of special interest groups or the capitalistic desires of corporations.  Let the free enterprise system enable corporations to build international business relationships on their own without the involvement of our elected officials.

We don’t need the former leaders of nations to build relationships with dictators just to further the interests of private corporations.  http://tgr.ph/rFMXWb

If furthering “national interests” means building peaceful relationships on behalf of the people, then I’m all for it.  However, if that is taken to mean to serve the interests of private corporations, then I say “that’s not in the national interest”.
